So here I sit, its the last part of Feb and its poring down rain outside and cold. But I'm dreaming of Spring and the warm weather that it will bring. I've been reading a few homesteader sites and one caught my attention right away. The Prairie Homestead I like the way she makes you feel like you can have a homestead no matter where you are. I leave in a mid size town, and have a good size bad yard that is not being used for anything, so I thought I'd start this project and see how far I get with it. Since my town is nicknamed B-Town, that is how I came up with the name for this blog. I'm tired of paying unreal prices for food in the store and not getting the quality food for the prices we pay. So what better way than to start my own gardens and learn to prepare & store my own foods. I'm so happy about starting this project because all the foods I will grow will be foods that are grown ripe on the vines/bushes, and are not gassed or sprayed with chemicals and pesticides. So that is my goal with this small simple homestead is to grown my own foods and make my own health products and be more self sufficient.
I've started following another homesteader, Our Simple Farm I like this site as well, the first soaps I made were from her site and I loved them. Currently she is doing a Challenge and this is also how I got started on this project as well. So what have I done so far, well not much really, the weather will not work with me, its either too wet or cold to go outside or both. So I thought I would start my seeds inside, so I began by shredding newspaper and soaking them in water and making paper mache containers to start my seeds in. I found this idea on Pinterest, we cool. I used the Smart Gardener site to help me setup and calculate what I need and how much space I need to grow the items I want to grow. I've purchased some seeds and a soil tested. I'm now waiting for a few sunny days so I can start the garden.
